The divergence — week by week

These aren't snapshot numbers. This is 8 weeks of continuous tracking. The patterns below are structural, not noise.

Contracting ↓

Dropped 61% in 5 weeks. Engineering fell from 45 to 10. This is a freeze, not gradual attrition — and it follows Kraken's xStocks launch and an expensive EU expansion push.

What this means

The crypto exchange tier is splitting into two groups right now. Bybit and Binance are in aggressive hiring mode — Bybit appears to be rebuilding after its 2022–23 contraction, with particular emphasis on compliance (possibly related to its Dubai/UAE regulatory positioning). Kraken, OKX, and Coinbase are all contracting — some post-expansion normalization, some cost-pressure from the broader market. These divergences typically precede announcements: product launches, regulatory milestones, or restructuring plans. We publish forward predictions when the pattern is strong enough.
