Exchange Signals Day 3: Department Breakdowns — What Each Means

Day 3 of the free course — interpreting product, compliance, engineering, and finance department hiring patterns at crypto exchanges.

Day 3: Department Breakdowns

Day 3 of the Signalmap free course on exchange hiring signals.

Product Management Hiring

Product manager concentration above 15% of total roles = product launch in preparation. The PMs own the launch. OKX is currently at 20% (89/446). This is the strongest product signal in our dataset.

Engineering Hiring (Technology-Specific)

Generic engineering = backfill. Technology-specific engineering (L2, ZK-rollup, stablecoin protocol, MiCA compliance tech) = specific product build. Binance's 5 stablecoin protocol engineers are building a stablecoin, period.

Compliance Hiring

General compliance = normal operations. Jurisdiction-specific compliance (EU, VASP, SEC) = market entry or regulatory filing in that jurisdiction. Coinbase's 38 EU compliance roles = EU market entry.

Finance/IR Hiring

CFO, Head of IR, VP Financial Reporting in the same window = IPO or major capital markets event. Kraken's 9 roles in 8 weeks = IPO preparation. One IR role = normal. Nine in eight weeks = preparation.

Corporate Development Hiring

Corp dev = M&A or strategic partnerships. One corp dev role during a hiring freeze = high M&A probability. That is the Gemini signal.
