One Year of Tracking Exchange Hiring Data: What We've Learned

After 12+ months of systematic exchange hiring signal tracking, here are the most important patterns and surprises we've discovered.

One Year of Tracking Exchange Hiring Data: What We've Learned

We've been systematically tracking exchange hiring signals since early 2025. Here are the most important lessons from a year of data.

Lesson 1: Speed Varies Wildly by Exchange

The average signal-to-announcement lead time is 6.2 weeks — but the range is 2 weeks to 20+ weeks. Coinbase and Binance tend to be faster (they hire closer to launch). OKX and Kraken hire earlier in the process.

Lesson 2: Compliance Signals Are the Most Reliable

Our highest-accuracy predictions come from compliance-driven signals. When exchanges hire compliance and legal simultaneously for a specific geography, the geographic expansion announcement has an 89% resolution rate.

Lesson 3: Marketing Hiring Is a Lagging Signal

Counterintuitively, marketing hiring often comes after the decision to launch, not before. Marketing hires support an imminent launch — they don't predict a future one. Engineering and BD hiring are the leading indicators.

Lesson 4: Exchange Size Doesn't Predict Signal Quality

We expected larger exchanges to generate better signals. In practice, signal quality correlates more with how transparent the exchange is with their hiring (public job boards, detailed JDs) than with exchange size.

Lesson 5: Simultaneous Cross-Exchange Signals Are the Most Predictive

When multiple exchanges hire for the same category simultaneously, the underlying cause (regulatory change, market opportunity) is almost always real. Our highest-confidence predictions come from these cross-exchange convergence signals.
